Documentary credit

The documentary credit is one of the most secure payment methods in international trade used to reduce import and export-related risks. Documentary credit requires the presentation of documents, which must comply with its terms and conditions, prior to initiating the payment. It can be issued in a variety of forms and could be payable on a sight basis or at maturity. This instrument is subject to Uniform Customs and Practice for Documentary Credits (UCP), ICC Publication No. 600.
